The spirit of Camp Kalsman revolves around our Chadar Ochel (dining hall). The entire camp eats together 3 times a day. We say Hamotzi (blessing over the meal) before we eat and chant Birkat Hamazon (grace after meals) after we eat. Meal times are when we read the Hoda’ot (announcements?!) and find out what the day has in store.
Camp Kalsman is not a kosher facility, but like most of the URJ camps it is kosher-style. This means that though, we do not have a kosher kitchen or kosher plates and utensils, we do not serve pork or shellfish, or products containing them, and do not permit such products on camp grounds. Whenever meat is served, a vegetarian option is offered, and a non-dairy dessert is made available. We will also accommodate campers on special allergy- or health-related diets. Please make us aware of your needs in advance.
