David Berkman, Director
David Berkman comes to Camp Kalsman with a wealth of camping experience. A product of URJ Camps, David was selected as Camp Kalsman’s first director for his expertise in informal Jewish education, his management expertise, and his love of camping. David is an avid scuba diver and loves to travel. David spent his first summer at camp when he was just 6 years old and hasn’t looked back since!
Max Weinberg, Assistant Director
Max grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and as a member of North Shore Congregation Israel, developed his passion for Judaism. He attended Indiana University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and worked in Chicago Public Schools while completing his teacher certification. In his free time, Max loves to watch sports (Go Blackhawks!) and play music. Max is excited to share his love of camp with the Kalsman community and can’t wait for the summer!
Heidi Love, Bookkeeper/Registrar
Heidi has lived in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years and has been with the URJ since 2005, starting as the registrar for Camp Atid, Camp Kalsman’s predecessor. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, dragon-boating, gardening, reading, learning, hiking, bicycling, and enjoying the great outdoors.
Terra Zicklin, Communication/Development Associate
Terra moved from Los Angeles to study Public Relations and Business Administration at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!). With her time at the UO, she was highly involved in the Jewish community. She is a huge fan of iced coffee, Disney movies, and the outdoors! She is SO excited for the summer, and can’t wait to meet you all!
Abbey Bell, Machon Director
Abbey couldn’t be more excited to be part of the NFTY team in Seattle, Washington as the NFTY North West Regional Advisor and Kalsman Machon Director! During college, Abbey became incredibly immersed in the Jewish Community by working at URJ Camp Kalsman every summer, teaching various age groups and subjects at multiple congregations, starting a middle school youth group in Eugene, OR. With a huge love of theater, music, and baseball, and an obsession with both elephants and coffee, Abbey is excited to come home for her 5th summer!!

My name is Bella Merritt and I will be your assitant program director. I am from Seattle, WA and grew up going to be Temple Beth Am and participating in NFTY-NW all throughout high-school. I have just graduated from American University where I majored in International Studies. I love to travel, eat good food, and listen to any podcasts about politics. I am cannot wait to spend my ninth summer and fifth on staff at Kalsman. I am excited to welcome you all home this summer!
Jackie Kleinstein, Camper Care Coordinator
My name is Jackie Kleinstein and I’ve been a part of the Kalsman family for all eleven summers in some way, and can’t wait to return as the Camper Care Director again this summer. I grew up in Seattle, and was an active member of NFTY-NW. I live in Seattle with my husband, Paul and two kids, JJ and Isabella. I love to read, play board games and watch Friends reruns.
Jessica Brumer, Coogarim/Goorim Unit Head
Hi my name is Jessica Brumer! This summer I will be the Coogarim/Goorim unit head! This will be my 11th summer at camp and my 4th summer on staff. I am currently living and studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on my semester abroad. Some things to know about me is that my favorite food is sushi and pho, hanging out with friends and most importantly camp! I cannot wait to welcome you all home this summer!
Nemmie Stieha, Nitzotzot/Nemerim Unit Head
I’m Nemmie Stieha and I will be this year’s Nemerim/Nitzotzot Unit Head! I’m originally from Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area but am now proud to call Boise, Idaho home. My job when I’m not judging talent shows or making lanyards is as the Music Educator and Outreach Coordinator for Adults in their 20s and 30s for Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel and a 5th grade teacher at our religious school! Camp is part of my soul and I first attended Jewish summer camp in 2004 at GUCI and have attended almost every summer since because when I’m not at camp for a summer I don’t know what to do with myself and I sit there making friendship bracelets alone. This will be my first summer at Kalsman! Can’t wait to spend the summer with y’all!
Leah Beck, Chalutzim/Kochavim Unit Head
I’m Leah and this is my sixth summer working at URJ Camp Kalsman and my eleventh summer total! This summer I am the Unit Head for current 5th grade campers in the unit Kochavim/Chalutzim! I currently live in Jerusalem, Israel and spend my time studying in a yeshiva called Pardes! I will be returning to Pardes next year to study in their program for Experiential Educators so that someday I can become a full-time camp professional! But for now, I can’t wait to get back to camp and get ready to welcome all our kids home for the summer!!

Lauren Fishman, Dubim/Tzofim Unit Head
Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and this will be my 5th year on staff at camp! I am the Dubim/Tzofim Unit Head again and I couldn’t be more excited! I love chocolate, gardening, teaching, puppies, and long walks on the beach. This summer we are going to sing songs on Shabbat, go on an incredible trip, eat lots of s’mores, swim, hike, climb the tower, canoe, and enjoy each others Jewishness together! I can’t wait to welcome you home!
Gavi Winer, Kesher Unit Head
Gavi Winer is beyond excited to return to Camp Kalsman this summer as the Kesher Unit Head! This will be Gavi’s 5th summer working at a URJ camp, and it will be her second summer at Kalsman. Her favorite thing about camp is being outdoors, and she’s looking forward to spending time with Kesher campers, especially on the Kesher trips.
When not at camp, Gavi attends Allegheny College, in Pennsylvania, where she will be receiving her degree in Environmental Studies and Spanish Language in 2018.

Hi! My name is Abby Merritt and I will be one of the Machón (CIT) advisors this summer. I am originally from Seattle and was a member in Temple Beth Am’s youth programming during high school and I was a camper at Kalsman for many years. I attend Dickinson College in Pennsylvania but this upcoming year I will be studying abroad in Jordan. I have been the dance specialist for the past two summers and I am excited to spend another summer at Kalsman!

Madeline Weinstein, Drama Specialist
Madeline Weinstein is a freshman, soon to be an incoming sophomore at Western Oregon University studying Theatre Arts. She dreams of being a High School drama teacher and director, and has so much in store for this summer as a drama specialist! This is Madeline’s ninth year at Kalsman, and first year on staff. She enjoys singing, sweet tea, and making art. Her greatest achievement in life was when she had the opportunity to see Hamilton on Broadway. Madeline’s special talents include cracking awful puns, making friendship bracelets like nobody’s business, and smiling all the time. Madeline can not wait to return to Camp Kalsman and have the greatest summer of her life!

Hello! My name is Iliana Eber, and I am so excited to be returning to as a ropes specialist for my second year on staff! I spent many years as a camper and Kalsman and had a blast as an in-cabin counselor last summer. I am a native Coloradan who loves to be outside and hike, ski, and play soccer. Social justice is my passion, and in my free time you can find me watching way too many TED talks. I can’t wait to return to my home away from home for another wonderful summer. See you soon!

My name is Joshua Freedman, I am 20 years old and am currently going to school in Arizona and studying engineering. This is my first summer at Kalsman, I will be the sports specialist for the summer and I am really looking forward to it. In high school I played almost almost every sport either competitively or for fun. I was born in Canada then moved to New York early in my life then a few years later moved to California. I grew up going to Sunday school at Temple Isreal as well as going to Shabbat on Friday nights.

Hey, my name is Zane Zicklin. I’m an 18 year old from Los Angeles, California currently going to school at CU Boulder. As a sports specialist it should come as no surprise that I love sports, playing and watching. My favorite teams are the Dodgers, Knicks, and Steelers. When i’m not swishing threes, I spend my time listening to music, playing video games, and enjoying the outdoors. I look forward to having a great time this summer with everybody at Camp Kalsman.

I’m Jaime Korner, and this will be my fourth summer on staff and my eight summer overall at Kalsman! I’ll be graduating in May from Brandeis University, where I’m studying Chemistry and Women’s and Gender Studies. I’m excited to be the Teva and Trips Supervisor this year–I’ve worked in the garden for the last two summers and it’s definitely one of my favorite spots on camp. I love cooking, hiking, science, travel, and, of course, camp and Shabbat Shira!

Hi, my name is Julia López, I’m from Stockton California, basically the Central Valley. I’m just finishing my first year at UC Davis, and this is my second year as a lifeguard at camp. I am a huge fan of hockey, the color pink, and you can always catch me drinking sweet tea. I can’t wait to meet and be with everyone at camp this summer!

My name is Courtney Salzman and I’m 21 years old. I’m a junior at the College of Charleston in Charleston South Carolina studying finance. When I’m not in class you can find me on a sailboat, motor boat, the pool, at the beach or in the ocean. I grew up in Bellevue, WA where I attended JDS, and interlake high school. I am a member of Temple Bnai Torah and participated in NFTY-NW. This summer I will be a waterfront specialist at camp!
Sara Flash, Waterfront Specialist- Hi! I’m Sara Flash and I’m going to be a waterfront specialist this summer! In the fall, I will be starting my sophomore year at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. I love to sing, swim, and go bike riding in my free time. If I could visit anywhere in the world, I would want to go to Australia and my favorite part of camp has always been Shabbat Shira! I was a camper at Kalsman for 7 years and I am so excited to be back at camp for my second summer on staff!

I am going to be one of the many Sarah’s on camp this summer. I am from a small town called Sonora in California, and currently attend the University of Victoria in Canada. I am currently getting my history degree, and then plan on getting my teaching credentials. This will be my third summer on staff, however this will be my 13th summer attending a summer camp. I will be one of the lifeguards on camp, I love the traveling, the outdoors, and Disney music. I am so excited for the summer and can’t wait to meet you all!
