Every week, Jewish communities around the world read the same words from the Torah. These stories of our ancestors teach lessons, inspire values and serve as the basis for who we are and at camp, they come brilliantly alive.
I experienced campers feel the same unbridled joy as Miriam and the women dancing during Mi Chamocha.
I watched campers embody a sense of pride and accomplishment when they climbed the tower, finished an art project, made the pool-basketball shot, found me during the photo scavenger hunt, or sang with wild abandon during shira (song session).
I experienced the wonder in the words of Balaam: “how beautiful are your tents,” not only for the beauty of camp, but more importantly for the sense of belonging that permeates our community.
I witnessed friendships that were deeper; self-discovery that was more authentic and Jewish joy that was celebrated in moments large and small.
I helped some of our campers play out the struggle and embrace of Jacob and Esau; we navigated difficult situations, acknowledged fault, felt seen and heard, and grew stronger through these experiences.
The words of Torah were written thousands of years ago, but they were alive all summer in the beauty and holiness of camp. Thank you for being our partners in creating this holy community.
